TWO HIVES, ONE MISSION, AND A WHOLE LOT OF HONEY

We are John & Jane Smith — backyard beekeepers turned small-batch honey farmers, right here in Anytown. This is the story of how a hobby became a mission to bring real, raw honey to our neighbors.

HOW IT ALL STARTED

In the spring of 2018, John came home with two wooden beehive boxes, a secondhand smoker, and a library book on backyard beekeeping. Jane thought he was out of his mind. By summer, she was the one out in the yard every morning checking on the bees before coffee.

That first harvest was small — just a few jars of golden wildflower honey. We gave most of it away to friends and neighbors. But the reaction was always the same: "This tastes nothing like the honey I buy at the store. Where can I get more?"

That question changed everything. We realized that most people in Anytown had never tasted real, raw honey. They had no idea what they were missing — or what was being taken out of the commercial honey on grocery store shelves. We decided to change that, one jar at a time.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

Our mission has always been simple: protect local pollinators while providing raw, unfiltered honey to the Anytown community.

Every decision we make runs through that lens. We never heat our honey above natural hive temperatures because heat destroys the enzymes, antioxidants, and pollen that make raw honey special. We never blend our honey with anything — no syrups, no additives, no honey from other regions. What goes into the jar is exactly what our bees made, nothing more and nothing less.

We also believe in transparency. You are welcome to visit our property, meet our bees, and see exactly where your honey comes from. We have nothing to hide because there is nothing to hide. Just healthy bees doing what they do best, and two beekeepers who care deeply about getting it right.

OUR BEES, OUR RESPONSIBILITY

Honeybees are under pressure. Habitat loss, pesticide exposure, and industrial farming practices have made life harder for pollinators across the country. As beekeepers, we see it firsthand — and we take that responsibility seriously.

We manage our hives using sustainable, treatment-conscious methods that prioritize the long-term health of our colonies over short-term production. We never push our bees to overproduce. When a hive needs its honey stores to get through winter, we leave it for them. Their survival always comes first.

Beyond our own property, we partner with local gardens, community farms, and neighbors to plant pollinator-friendly wildflowers and native plants throughout Anytown. When you buy from Local Honey, a portion of every sale goes directly toward expanding pollinator habitat in our community. More flowers mean more forage. More forage means healthier bees. Healthier bees mean better honey — and a healthier Anytown.

THE BEEKEEPERS

The two people (and several thousand bees) behind every jar of Local Honey.

John Smith

John Smith

Co-Founder & Head Beekeeper

John is the one who brought home those first two hives in 2018 — and he has not stopped tinkering with them since. He manages hive health, seasonal inspections, and honey extraction. When he is not in the bee yard, he is reading about bees, talking about bees, or convincing someone else to start keeping bees. He believes everyone in Anytown should know where their food comes from.

Jane Smith

Jane Smith

Co-Founder & Product Creator

Jane is the creative force behind Local Honey's product line. She hand-rolls every beeswax candle, develops the infused honey recipes, and curates the monthly subscription box. She also handles the business side — farmers market logistics, online orders, and community outreach. She is the reason the hot pepper honey exists, and she will not apologize for it.

FROM OUR HIVES TO YOUR HOME

WHY OUR NEIGHBORS TRUST LOCAL HONEY

"I bought my first jar at the Anytown farmers market two years ago and I have not bought honey from a store since. You can taste the difference immediately — it is richer, more complex, and I love knowing it came from bees just a few miles from my house."

Anytown Resident
"What I appreciate most about John and Jane is how open they are about their process. They invited me out to see the hives, showed me how they extract the honey, and answered every question I had. You just do not get that kind of trust with a brand off a shelf."
Michael D.
Anytown Resident
"My daughter did a school project on pollinators and John spent an hour with her class at the apiary. They are genuinely invested in this community, not just selling a product. That matters to our family. She raved about the trip so much a few of her classmates have since visited!"
